Powers who helped spearhead the successful high-tech recruiting projects in over the past 25 years says Austin’s high-tech ecosystem is being undermined by the steady erosion of the area’s chip manufacturing base. Several chip factories have closed in recent years most recently Cypress Semiconductor’s plant in Round Rock. ne of the area’s five factories that remains in operation Spansion Inc. ’s Fab 25 is reported to be up for sale according to industry analysts. Powers and a group of business supporters believe that some of the area’s idle chip factories and its trained work force can be put to work in new alternative energy projects in a way that makes Austin a research and development hub for new energy projects. Powers and several supporters who include City Council Member Brewster McCracken spoke to the Austin American-Statesman editorial board on Monday about the need to build support at the city university and state government levels to help Austin San Antonio and the rest of Texas do a better job of competing for alternative energy projects.

A headline read “If you can’t break new ground mow the old one” but the review did concede that two songs the title track and “Blueprint To A Lie” are “the stuff of playlist permanence. “Citing “the unusual economic climate we all find ourselves in these days” the producing artistic director of Vermont Stage has sent a letter to season subscribers announcing that the theater company will not stage a full production of its March show “Looking ver the President’s Shoulder. “Mark Nash of Vermont Stage wrote in the letter dated Friday that the company had considered canceling the show but instead will present a staged reading over the course of one week rather than a full production over two weeks. “That means much simpler production elements (set lights costumes props sound) and it means the actor will be reading the play from a script” Nash wrote.
