In most offices workers might choose to speed the day along by tuning in to a nice easy-listening or pop-music radio station. For Brook eight hours of listening to Sara Bareilles refuse to write love songs and Beyonce wishing she was a boy would be akin to driving hot pokers in her ears. But luckily for Brook she had GRock an alternative rock station more formally known as WHTG-FM 106. 5 that fed her tastes for unconventional rock with tunes from Depeche Mode The Psychedelic Furs and The Cure. “It kept me sane at work” the 35-year-old Weymouth Township native said. “It was one station that didn’t play the same (junk) that’s on all the other radio stations.

Here’s how smop works:”Basically we mop up everything we listen to and all the things we experience in our little bubbles and we sponge it in and sponge it out and hopefully it’s popular. “The people in my generation the baby-baby boomers we really are kind of like sponges” Chess continues. “We absorbed the music our parents listened from the ’40s ’50s and ’60s then our own listening from Talking Heads to the Pretenders and ‘Graceland’ all splashing into the ’90s when we were really into the alternative rock of Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana then back to a phase of only listening to classic rock. “Now it all interacts” he says. “When you sit back from it and start writing it all comes together in the strangest ways. All of those eras of music has had time to evolve. “Yes he admits it “sounds like something on Sesame Street.
