r maybe I do and just don’t want to accept it. Adam must have scared the dickens out of a big hunk of America with his “guyliner” and outrageous costumes his black-polished nails and “Elvis meets Mad Max” hair. In the land of Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton he must seem wildly alternative. And though it seems unreasonable on both American coasts there’s probably a homophobic aspect to the outcome as well. Six years ago (AI Season 2) everyone knew Clay Aiken was gay but the show and the contestant himself went to great lengths to deny it. While Lambert’s sexual identity was not openly discussed this season no one seemed to be cloaking it either. He acknowledged then laughed off suggestions that may have influenced the final vote.

Appearing with alternative rock bands the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Metric the performance is part of a larger Independence Jam festival promoted by local alternative rock station KBZT FM 94. Program director Garett Michaels said earlier this week that the station which has held the popular June concert at Devore Field in Chula Vista for the last three years decided to move to ceanside because of the picturesque beachfront view and because the station has many North County listeners. “That’s just an incredibly scenic spot up there” Michaels said. About 4000 tickets were available for the concert which sold out in six days Michaels said.
