Known for experimental noise rock but also capable of creating more structured and catchy songs the band was a huge influence on various musical movements of the ’90s and continues to inspire younger acts. The punk rock revolution that changed the music scene in Englandduring the 1970s arrived 20 years later in America with the rise ofgrunge a mixture of punk and metal played by Seattle-based bandssuch as Nirvana. The music industry opened its eyes to thecommercial potential of alternative rock when it saw the popularityof the first Lollapalooza traveling rock and culture festival in1991. Grunge eventually died out and the charismatic rock bands ofthe 1990s were replaced by groups that could produce a moreradio-acceptable sound. Now the 1990s acts want to reclaim their place on the musicscene. ld fans and recent converts buy tickets to their tours. Some rock stations have pumped up their playlists with more 1990ssongs.

Musicians however deal with this dilemma no matter the state of the economy. South Florida’s Jim Camacho came close to major label success with his band The Goods first with Columbia then with Joan Jett’s record company Blackheart. Things didn’t pan out and he’s now crafting his own brand of alternative rock. But it’s hard not to apply the baggage of his history to the opening track of Jim Camacho’s new release Beachfront Defeat. “Is It Me” communicates Camacho’s anxiety about being successful butnot necessarily as a rock star. (It’s just hard not to apply Camacho’shistory when hearing the single. ) “Is It Me” is standard-issue thoughcarefully-crafted alternative rock containing lyrics about “losingcontrol” and “holding too tightly.
